Overview:
These instructions are for sites with the 210 gallon reject tanks that have an upper and lower Jobe float. This kit will move the upper Jobe float lower down on the tank to reduce the amount of Reject water that is wasted by an open/broken Jobe float. This install will take approximately 45 minutes.
Parts (Order Separately):
- 1 x P-WAT-3796 – 1/2” Bulkhead Fitting
- 1 x P-WAT-2104 – 1/2” PVC Pipe Plug
- 2’ x P-SPL-2129 – 1” Hose
Recommended Tools:
- 1 x 1-3/8” Hole Saw and Drill
- 1 x iPad
- 1 x Ratcheting Pipe Cutter
- 1 x Channel Locks
- 1 x Thread Sealant Tape
- 1 x 10mm Socket and Ratchet
- 1 x Cup or Small Pail
Installation Steps:
After hours, mark where you are going to place the new Jobe Float. Some tanks have dimples that can be used to locate an acceptable position, but some will need to be free-handed. If there is not a dimple, mark a point approximately 8.5in above the center of the lower Jobe float and approximately 7in in from the outside of the tank. The spot should be in an area that has a couple of inches of flat surface on all sides. If the tank does have dimples, mark the dimple that is diagonally above the lower Jobe float.
Figure 1: Mark the new position for the upper Jobe float using the lower Jobe float and the wall of the tank Turn off the main water supply shut off valve for the wash. Also, shut off the outgoing valve for the reject tank that does not have Jobe floats, so the two tanks do not equalize.
Figure 2: Main water supply shut off valve Figure 3: Alternate tank outlet valve Use the iPad to manually run the High-Pressure Rinse function to drain the reject tank below where you are going to install the Jobe float. Continue to run the function until the water level has dropped below the lower Jobe float and then wait for the float to stop pouring water into the tank. Once the lower Jobe float runs dry, set the function to “Off”.
Figure 4: Set HP Rinse to Manual Using the iPad Loosen the hose clamps on the fittings stack that leads to the upper Jobe float and spin the hose barb out of the elbow.
Figure 5: Unthread the hose barb from the elbow Tighten the bulkhead fitting on the tank to hold the Jobe float firm. Then, spin the PVC elbow off the upper Jobe float. If the Jobe float begins to spin, tighten the bulkhead some more.
Figure 6: Tighten the bulkhead fitting with Channel Locks Loosen the outside bulkhead nut and remove the upper Jobe float from the tank. Install the new ½” bulkhead in the tank. Wrap the ½” PVC plug with thread sealant tape and screw it into the bulkhead until tight to seal the upper hole.
Have someone reach into the tank with a large cup and hold it around the point where you will be drilling. This is to catch any shavings that may come from drilling through the tank. You may need to tape the cup to a brush handle if it is too far into the tank to reach. Below is an example of a cup that was used to catch the shavings during this example install.
Figure 7: Example Catch Cup Using the hole saw, slowly drill the position marked on the tank. Remove any excess material or shavings from the hole, being careful not to push any shavings into the tank. Once the hole is clean, pull the cup out of the tank.
Clean the upper Jobe float and then insert it into the newly cut hole.
Once you have the new Jobe float set up, tighten the bulkhead nut so that the Jobe float will not spin. Tape the MNPT portion of the new Jobe float.
Figure 8: Installed Upper Jobe Float Thread on the PVC elbow and screw on the old fitting stack. Either cut the remaining portions of the original hose to fit or measure and cut a new section of hose and attach it to the Jobe float fittings.
Reconnect the hose and crack the manual valve that leads to the upper Jobe float.
Figure 9: Final Fittings Assembly for Upper Jobe Float Slowly open the valve for the main incoming city feed to repressurize the system. The tank should begin filling with water from both Jobe floats. Look in through the top of the tank and confirm that both Jobe floats are flowing water into the tank when the float is down and shut off when the float is up. Allow it to fill up until the water line is above both floats.
Open the alternate tank’s outlet valve. Turn the high-pressure rinse function to “Manual” using the iPad to begin draining the tank. Confirm that both Jobe floats are still operating as intended, and that water is coming out of the high-pressure rinse arch.
- Finally, run a test car through the wash to confirm that everything is working correctly.
