This procedure explains how to clean the Reclaim Hydrocyclones on the Water Treatment Center when they become clogged, when a loss of siphon is detected during priming, or as part of preventative maintenance.
During this procedure, the wash may remain open and the procedure will take approximately 45 minutes to complete.
Safety
Before beginning, wear the required PPE, such as safety glasses, chemical-resistant gloves, and hearing protection as required by site conditions.
Required Tools and Materials
Required tools and materials include a ratchet with a five-sixteenths-inch socket, channel locks, a five-gallon bucket, replacement Hydrocyclone flow restrictor inserts, and absorbent paper towels.
Procedure
- To identify a clogged Hydrocyclone, check the hose for flow. If you do not feel water flowing through the hose while the system is in Production, the Hydrocyclone is likely clogged.
- Begin the procedure by placing the Water Treatment Center Reclaim into Bypass mode.
- Using a ratchet with a five-sixteenths-inch socket, loosen the hose clamp, then slide the clamp down the hose.
| WARNING: When removing the hoses and Hydrocyclone components, water and mud may spray or spill out. Keep a five-gallon bucket positioned underneath the work area to catch any discharge. |
- Remove the hose from the hose barb by twisting the hose while pulling it downward.
- If the clog is severe and nothing drains, loosen the bottom reverse-threaded flare fitting by turning it clockwise. If necessary, use channel locks to help loosen the fitting.
- With the bottom flare fitting removed, keep the five-gallon bucket underneath the Hydrocyclone in case debris loosens and begins to spill out.
- If nothing drains, remove the Hydrocyclone body to clean it and clear any restrictions.
- Take the flare fitting and Hydrocyclone body to the bay and clean them thoroughly.
- After cleaning, remove the flow restrictor insert from the bottom of the flare fitting and inspect it for signs of wear or damage.
- If the flow restrictor insert is worn or damaged, replace it with a spare insert and reinstall it in the flare fitting.
- Carefully align and reinstall the Hydrocyclone body and reverse-threaded flare fitting by turning them counterclockwise. Ensure the components are aligned correctly and do not cross-thread.
- Fully tighten the fittings, ensuring the flow restrictor insert remains centered.
- Reinstall the hose onto the hose barb.
- Slide the hose clamp back into its original position and fully tighten it using the five-sixteenths-inch socket and ratchet.
- After all connections are secure, perform the priming procedure and place the unit into Production.
Verify Operation
- Confirm that there are no leaks and that the Water Treatment Center Reclaim system is operating properly.
