Use this procedure after the Water Treatment Center reclaim strainer basket has been opened for cleaning or inspection. Opening the basket housing can introduce air into the reclaim system, so the basket housing must be properly primed before returning the system to Production mode.
Required PPE
Before beginning, wear the required personal protective equipment for this task, including:
- Safety glasses or face shield
- Gloves
- Any additional PPE required by your site
Procedure
- Place the reclaim system into Bypass mode.
At the Water Treatment Center HMI, place the reclaim system into Bypass mode before opening the strainer basket housing.
- Loosen the dog ears.
Loosen the dog ears, also called wing bolts, evenly around the strainer basket lid.
- Break the lid suction.
Using a flathead screwdriver, carefully crack the lid open to break the suction from the siphon.
- Remove the lid.
Once the suction has been released, carefully remove the lid from the strainer basket housing.
- Allow the basket housing to drain.
Allow the siphon to drain the water in the basket housing down to the bottom before removing the basket.
- Remove and clean the basket.
Carefully remove the basket from the housing. Clean the basket thoroughly, removing any debris or buildup that could restrict water flow.
- Inspect the basket.
Before reinstalling the basket, inspect it for cracks, damage, or any condition that could affect operation.
- Reinstall the basket.
Place the cleaned basket back into the strainer housing and confirm that it is seated properly.
- Inspect and install the O-ring.
Inspect the O-ring for wear, damage, or debris. Place the O-ring on top of the basket and confirm that it is properly seated and evenly positioned around the top of the basket.
- Reinstall the lid.
Place the lid back onto the strainer basket housing and align it correctly with the housing.
Lightly tighten the dog ears.
Swing the dog ears, or wing bolts, back into position and lightly tighten them.Important: Do not fully tighten the lid yet. The wing bolts must remain loose enough for air to escape from the basket housing during the priming process.
Place the reclaim system into Prime mode.
At the HMI, place the reclaim system into Prime mode. Prime mode will first perform an air blast for the configured duration, typically about two seconds.- Allow the basket housing to fill.
After the air blast, the Prime solenoid will open and water will begin filling the reclaim basket housing. As the housing fills, trapped air will escape through the loosened lid.
- Stand clear and watch for water.
Stand clear of the lid area during this step. Water may spray from the housing as the air is purged.
- Confirm the housing is primed.
Continue priming until water is spraying steadily from the basket housing. This indicates that the air has been purged and the housing is full of water.
Tighten the dog ears evenly.
Once water is spraying steadily, tighten the dog ears evenly around the lid. Use an alternating star pattern so the lid seals evenly.Important: Do not fully tighten one side before tightening the others.
- Return the reclaim system to Production mode.
After the dog ears are tightened and the lid is sealed, place the reclaim system into Production mode.
- Verify normal operation.
Confirm that the reclaim system starts normally and verify that reclaim pressure stabilizes.
- Perform a final inspection.
Before leaving the area, verify that the basket housing dog ears are tight and inspect the lid area for leaks.
The Water Treatment Center reclaim strainer basket is properly primed once air has been purged from the basket housing, the lid has been sealed, reclaim pressure has stabilized, and the system is operating normally in Production mode.
