Preliminary Note: This Test can be performed while the Wash is Open.
Frequency: Once per week or as often as necessary.
Items needed: One Package of pH Strips. Part # P-CHE-2143.
Procedure: This Procure will require three locations to be tested. These locations will be (1) the Center Pre Soak Arch, (2) The Combo 1 Leg 2, and (3) The Spot Free Rinse.
| Function | Suggested Pre Soak Readings |
| Center Pre Soak Arch | 11-14 pH |
| Combo 1 Leg 2 | 4-7 pH |
| Spot Free Rinse | 7 pH |
Center Pre Soak Arch: The first Test is taken from the Center Pre Soak Arch. This is the High pH (Alkaline) Pre Soak Detergent. The reading should fall in the 11-14 range.
Combo 1 Leg 2: The second Test is taken at Combo 1 Leg 2. This Combo Unit uses Tommy Brite. Tommy Brite is a low-pH detergent. The Test Result should be in the 4-7 pH range.
Final Test: The third Test is taken off the Vehicle as it passes through the Spot Free Rinse Arch. Usually, from the back Quarter Panel of the Vehicle. This will ensure that the test is a combination of all of the chemicals on the Vehicle. This reading can only be a Neutral 7 pH. If the reading is not 7, then the Chemistry is off and can result in cars not being as clean and shiny as they could be, or you could lose micro-beading capabilities, and have Vehicles coming out of the Tunnel still wet.
If your pH readings do not fall in the proper ranges, you can achieve these ranges by changing the metering tip or injector to reach your desired pH reading. Always follow the 2023 Tommys Detergent Pod Standard, and do not deviate from the 2023 Tommys Detergent Pod Standard by more than two tip sizes in either direction.
Helpful Hints for diagnosing improper pH issues: Inspect/Replace the Detergent Tote Foot Valve, Inspect/replace the Draw Line (check for kinks, coagulation, or a blockage), inspect for plugged Metering Tip, inspect and clean/replace the Injector or VersaDials, or clogged and /or dirty Foam generator Inserts and housing.
