How to Inspect the Ball and Disk on The Mitter Rods

Work Instructions: How to replace the Ball and disk on the Mitter Rods

Interval Recommendation:

• Inspection weekly with a replacement interval of yearly or every 250,000 cars. 

Parts Needed:

• (4) Ball & Disk Sets (P-M2003): P-M2003|Tommy Car Wash

Tools Needed:

• Vise Grips
• 1/2 Impact with 3/4" Deep Well Socket
• Ratchet Strap
• Ladder

Procedure: 

1. Engage a Wash Stop.
2. Position the ladder on the driver’s side of the Mitter Basket.
3. Place a ratchet strap around the frame of the Mitter basket up to the framework of the All-In-One Combo Unit.
4. Tighten the ratchet strap, lifting the Mitter basket slightly.
5. With a vise grip, hold Ball & Disk shaft.
6. While holding the shaft, remove the bottom nut with an Impact and Socket Wrench.
7. Be careful not to drop the washer, Ball, and Disk from the bottom of the shaft.
8. Remove the shaft from the top of the Combo Unit.
9. Inspect the shaft on both ends for wear on thickness.
10. Install the upper Ball & Disk.
11. Reinstall the shaft.
12. Install new bottom Ball & Disk and washer.
13. Hold the shaft with Vise Grip and tighten the nut back into its original location.
14. Repeat for the remaining three Ball & Disk drive shafts.
15. Disengage the Wash Stop.
16. Turn on the hydraulics.
17. Watch and listen for level motion.
