Work Instructions: How to replace the Ball and disk on the Mitter Rods
Interval Recommendation:
- Inspection weekly with a replacement interval of yearly or every 250,000 cars.
Parts Needed:
- (4) Ball & Disk Sets (P-M2003): P-M2003|Tommy Car Wash
Tools Needed:
- Vise Grips
- 1/2 Impact with 3/4" Deep Well Socket
- Ratchet Strap
- Ladder
Procedure:
- Engage a Wash Stop.
- Position the ladder on the driver’s side of the Mitter Basket.
- Place a ratchet strap around the frame of the Mitter basket up to the framework of the All-In-One Combo Unit.
- Tighten the ratchet strap, lifting the Mitter basket slightly.
- With a vise grip, hold Ball & Disk shaft.
- While holding the shaft, remove the bottom nut with an Impact and Socket Wrench.
- Be careful not to drop the washer, Ball, and Disk from the bottom of the shaft.
- Remove the shaft from the top of the Combo Unit.
- Inspect the shaft on both ends for wear on thickness.
- Install the upper Ball & Disk.
- Reinstall the shaft.
- Install new bottom Ball & Disk and washer.
- Hold the shaft with Vise Grip and tighten the nut back into its original location.
- Repeat for the remaining three Ball & Disk drive shafts.
- Disengage the Wash Stop.
- Turn on the hydraulics.
- Watch and listen for level motion.
